We report the complication of cardiac tamponade occurring secondary to a pericardial effusion in a patient with persistently seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. The frequency and presenting features of this potentially life threatening complication of rheumatoid arthritis are reviewed and management of this complication is discussed.
