Leucocytoclastic vasculitis and skin necrosis following subcutaneous heparin calcium. J. H. Kearsley, R. W. Jeremy and A. S. Coates, Aust. N.Z. J. Med. , 1982, 12, pp. 288–289. Low dose heparin calcium is of proven value in the prevention of post‐operative deep venous thrombosis, and has been shown to reduce the incidence of fatal pulmonary embolism/ Adverse local reactions, most commonly haemorrhage, are seldom troublesome, but we report here a patient in whom extensive skin necrosis occurred at the sites of subcutaneous heparin calcium injection.
