Two fatal cases of veno‐occlusive disease (VOD) of the liver following whole‐abdominal irradiation for malignant lymphoma are described. This occurred despite a radiotherapy programme designed to reduce the toxic effect of irradiation to the liver. The clinical picture of rapid weight gain, progressive ascites, jaundice, raised alkaline phos‐phatase and thrombocytopenia following abdominal radiotherapy should alert the clinician to the possibility of irradiation induced VOD .
