Summary: Rat mast cell degranulation has been utilised to detect human reagins to the drugs penicillin, insulin, rifampicin, cycloserine and lignacaine and to rheomacrodex. The specificity of the method for human IgE was established by the induction of degranulation with anti‐IgE. The technique appears to have limitations as a potential tool for routine clinical diagnosis.
