Summary: A case of phaeochromocytoma presenting with congestive cardiac failure and mild hypertension is reported. Clinical and ECG features were consistent with catecholamine cardiomyopathy. During preoperative preparation both propranolol and practolol produced elevation in central venous pressure. Following successful removal of the phaeochromocytoma there was initial worsening of cardiac failure with subsequent full recovery over two months.
