Summary: The intravenous injection of cholecystokinin in a patient with the Zollinger‐Ellison syndrome resulted in a sharp fall in gastric acid secretion. In contrast, secretin infusion led to a further increase in the hypersecretion of acid. The latter effect is attributed to the release of extragastric gastrin for secretin infusion following total gastrectomy led to a further elevation of serum gastrin levels. Infusion of either cholecystokinin or secretin produced large volumes of bicarbonate‐rich duodenal juice.
