All diagnostic imaging practices claiming Medicare benefits for items covered by the Radiology Memorandum of Understanding (this includes services provided by vascular surgeons: vascular ultrasound and angiography) need to have registered with one of 4 designated Accreditation Providers and to have achieved Stage 1 accreditation by June 30 this year. The government has recently formed a Consultative Working Group (CWG) to commence proceedings regarding stage 2 of the Accreditation process and I have accepted their nomination to represent both RACS and ANZSVS on this group after seeking approval from the respective Presidents of RACS and ANZSVS. Between the time of submission of this abstract and the presentation of this paper there will have been two teleconferences and one face to face meeting of the CWG in Canberra. An update will be presented.
