A case of thrombosis of the right lateral sinus and petrosal sinus is reported. The thrombosis followed wide excision of a malignant melanoma and radical neck dissection, with ligation of the jugular vein, and this latter procedure was regarded as the most likely etiological factor. The relevant literature is briefly reviewed
