The long saphenous vein has been used to construct arterio‐venous fistula in the forearms of five patients who were undergoing intermittent hæmodialysis. This has proved a satisfactory method of allowing dialysis in patients in whom external shunts or direct arterio‐venous fistula have either failed, or have been impracticable. The indications for, and the techniques of, their construction are discussed.
