Fifty patients attending the urological department of the Meath Hospital and County Dublin Infirmary, Eire, were treated with the new chemotherapeutic agent, trimethoprim‐sulphamelhoxazole. Clinical and bacteriological studies were carried out at the end of the course of treatment and at follow‐up four weeks later. The majority of urinary pathogens were found to be sensitive to this preparation, and the development of resistant strains was minimal. The drug was found to be effective when administered for seven days, and side‐effects occurred in one patient only.
