Perhaps for the first time, a surgeon as distinct from a radiologist makes in this review an assessment of the value of mammography to a surgeon. The experience gained in a review of 300 cases of breast pathology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital is presented. The detection of occult carcinoma is discussed. The limitations and dangers of mammography are emphasized.
