A standard experimental thrombus was produced electrically in the femoral arteries of sheep. The resultant clots were attacked with heparin or phenindione. Heparin prevented formation of the thrombus in test animals, and in animals with established thrombi it prevented further propagation. Phenindione was not successful in either of these roles.
