The purpose of this paper is to draw attention to the usually avoidable complication of re‐fracture of the femoral shaft which has followed treatment by conservative means. The cause, prevention and method of management of re‐fracture are outlined, and the particular susceptibility of the transverse mid‐shaft fracture is discussed.
