Summary 1. As more effective means are made available for pelvic tumour irradiation and increased incidence of bowel damage has been recognized. 2. Thirty patients undergoing pelvic tumour irradiation were followed with serial sigmoidoscopy and biopsy in an attempt to correlate these findings with the dosage given and the symptoms experienced. 3. Fifteen cases with established bowel damage are recorded and 3 reported in some details to illustrate the range of complications and the difficulties encountered when surgical intervention was necessary.
