S ummary Hydatid disease in the extradural space of the spinal canal was a chance discovery made at an exploratory operation intended to relieve nerve root pressure. It would appear to offer almost insurmountable difficulties in detection even if the aphorism is recalled that recognition of a rarity demands only that it be borne in mind.
