Summary This paper reviews some aspects of neonatal anaesthetic methods developed at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. Urgency, technique, humidification, warmth blood replacement and ventilation are dealt with in a general context, whilst specific problems relating to thoracotomies and laparotomies are discussed.
