Summary The total overall five‐year survival for carcinoma of the colon still leaves a lot tobe desired. In obstruction due to carcinoma of the sigmoid colon, preliminary decompression may facilitate the spread of the carcinoma. For tumours of the sigmoid colon with obstruction a technique of primary resection with proximal terminal colostomy and invagination of the distal stump performed in 2 cases is described. Continuity being re‐established at a later date.
