Summary1 Gas cysts of the intestine are uncommon in human beings but are observed occasionally, most often as an incidental observation at operation for other condition (frequently peptic ulcer). 2 The condition is common in pigs and may be produced experimentally. 3 It is self‐limited; recovery occurs without interference. 4 A short review of the history of the condition and the main pathological features is given.
