S ummary Three successful cases of renal carbuncle (one bilateral) are reported, and a total series of eighty‐four cases are reviewed, eighty‐one case records being obtained from a perusal of the literature. The pathology of renal carbuncle is discussed in relation to that of other members of the metastatic staphylococcal group of renal lesion. The importance of the complete investigation of all cases of “perinephric abscess” is emphasized. On the basis of the results obtained in this series, a rational line of treatment for renal carbuncle is suggested.
