In the session of Endoscopy Forum Japan (EFJ) 2004, we discussed current problems and expectations in pancreatobiliary endoscopy, and confirmed that it was essential to establish the standardization of endoscopy inclusive of its techniques and tool selections, and to perform a multicenter cooperative study of high quality in Japan. To establish the standardization of endoscopy and to perform a multicenter co‐operative study, we need the support of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES) and related foundations, and must put a stop to competition among institutions. It has become apparent that young doctors, whose shoulders our future rests on, are surely aware of necessities of global standardization of the medical approach. In the background of such a trend, global standardization is much anticipated to promote standardization of pancreatobiliary endoscopy and its multicenter study in Japan.
