We investigated the case of a patient who had complications after EST and stone extraction. A 55‐year‐old woman had EST for choledocholithiasis and 12 hours later developed epigastric pain. As the pancreatic enzymes and white blood cell count were within the normal limits, a plain abdominal X ray film was done and revealed the papillotome's wire still in the stomach and duodenal loop. Its removal relieved the sympoms and this was followed by an uneventful recovery.
