A bstract Laser in situ keratomileusis has become a widely accepted and commonly performed surgical refractive procedure. With the rapid advances in laser technology and surgical techniques, the visual outcomes and safety of this procedure has significantly improved. This review outlines the historical background, recent technological advances, indications, patient assessment and selection, the surgical technique, as well as complications of the procedure and their management.
