Thirty‐nine consecutive cases of fully accommodative esotropia and partially accommodative esotropia with residual angle of less than 20 Δ , treated by surgical correction between 1959 and 1983, were studied retrospectively. The purpose of surgery was to improve the appearance of the eyes when the spectacles were removed. Surgery produced an improvement in appearance without spectacles in every case. Consecutive exotropia has not occurred.
