Following their amalgamation in 1953, the Conjoint Libraries developed rapidly and played an essential part in the expansion and growth in stature of Australian ophthalmology. However, at this time of economic recession and cessation of funds for hospital expansion, apprehension is felt for the future. At the same time, publication costs are soaring, new electronic methods of communication are increasing and the conduct of libraries is on the threshold of computer technology.
