Nystagmus is a disturbance of ocular posture which may be produced by disturbances of any of the ocular fixation mechanisms, the saccadic or gaze mechanism and the vestibular system. Discussion is given to each of these, with reference to both physiological and pathological types of nystagmus. The types of the central nervous system disorders causing each of these are mentioned.
