In eighty patients with unilateral pseudo‐exfoliation of the lens capsule a highly significant association was found between the presence of unilateral pseudo‐exfoliation and raised intraocular pressure ( P <0,001). A highly significant association was also found between the presence of this increased intraocular pressure and an increased cup disc ratio ( P <0.001). These results suggest that glaucoma in pseudo‐exfoliation of the lens capsule is a secondary form of glaucoma and emphasises the importance of raised intraocular pressure in producing cupping of the optic disc. The possibility is mentioned that the pseudo‐exfoliative process may be active in an eye before it is clinically apparent.
