Summary A perusal of my personal experiences with unilateral and then bilateral aphakia through preoperative and post‐operative phases is recounted. Problems of rehabilitation to a normal social and professional life are discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of the numerous types of aphakic spectacles and contact lenses are discussed.
