Summary Nystagmus blocking syndrome is a form of infantile esotropia with characteristic features that include head turn, nystagmus on abduction of either eye. and frequent amblyopia. It has to be differenciated from crossed fixation or a true abduceans paralysis. It may explain recurrent esotropia after repeated surgery. The treatment is surgical, but the results of surgery are less predictable than with ordinary types of esotropia.
