Summary The modern philosophy of management of ocular trauma ‐consists of investigation of the full extent of the injury and active treatment. Obstructions to direct visualization of the interior of the eye, i.e. cataract, vitreous hemorrhage, are removed to determine if retinal damage is present. Lacerations of the cornea and sclera are closed with deep (99%) sutures. Uveal tissue is reposited whenever possible. Foreign bodies are removed under direct visualization. Retinal repair is performed under direct visualization.
