S ummary C ase histories of 280 ametropes are described and statistically evaluated. The hydrophilic contact lenses used have a water content of 70%, and have been worn continuously for periods up to 2½ years. Adaptation time was instantaneous in most cases. Lens shrinkage has not occurred. Over wearing syndrome signs were nonexistent, except in cases where the lens had been squashed. Visual acuity variability was noted and the cause of this is discussed. Infection occurred in 30% of cases. The cause, treatment and prevention is discussed. No corneal change was identified with manufacturing defects or by poor fitting techniques.
