S ummary C orticosteroid T herapy is effective in thyroid optic neuropathy; this negates one of the main indications for orbital decompression in thyroid eye disease. This view is contrasted with recent reports of many such operations having been done; notwithstanding, it is considered that the place of decompression operations is doubtful.
