The REVEAL (Risk Evaluation and Education for Alzheimer's Disease) study provides APOE genotype disclosure to first degree relatives of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Individuals who test positive for the E4 allele of APOE are at increased risk of developing AD, but little is known about whether people would alter their health behaviors based on this information. The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that participants who are E4 positive will be more likely than those who are E4 negative to make medication, diet, and mental and physical exercise changes that they believe relevant to the prevention of AD. This information will guide the development of support and counseling interventions for persons with genetic risk for AD.
