We studied 4 cases of left aortic arch and right descending aorta. Swallowing disturbance and vomiting were observed in one case. In the other cases, there were no symptoms related to esophageal or tracheal compression. The embryology of this developmental anomaly is not yet completely defined. Each of our 4 cases showed hypoplasia of the left aortic arch. We, therefore, consider that this anomaly may be a result of switching of the regression of the 4th branchial arch.
