The injurious locust known in Australian economic entomological literature as the Spur‐throated Locust has been cited in numerous papers since 1939 as Austracris guttulosa (Walker). Some confusion has resulted from proposed synonymisation of the genus Austracris Uvarov with Patanga Uvarov and Nomadacris Uvarov. It is argued that those synonymisations are unjustified and that Austracris guttulosa is the valid scientific name of the Spur‐throated Locust.
