Two new blackflies are described from southeastern Australia. Provisionally one species is placed in Cnephia Enderlein sensu Mackerras, viz., C. pilfreyi sp. n. and the other in Austrosimulium Tonnoir, viz. A. colboi sp. n., Cnephia pilfreyi shares more features with the Australian C. terebrans group and with the South American Cnesiamima atroparva Edwards. Austrosimulium colboi has more characters in common with the South American Paraustrosimulium anthracinum (Bigot), several with the A. australense group and Cnesiamima Wygodzinsky and Coscarón, and fewer with the A. mirabile group and Lutzsimulium d'Andretta and d'Andretta.
