Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) pea aphid was first detected in New South Wales at Yanco in January 1980. A survey conducted in March and May 1980 indicated that A. pisum was restricted to the southern areas of N.S.W. A second survey in June 1981 showed A. pisum had spread to all except 1 of the major lucerne growing areas of the State.
