Salvinia containing 4 known population densities of adult Cyrtobagous sp. was dried in Berlese funnels. Weevils extracted were counted at 8 one‐hour intervals and at 24 h when the plant material was dry. Averaged over all population densities 47% of the weevils had been recovered after 4 h, 84% after 8 h and 95% after 24 h. Extraction was slightly more efficient at higher population densities.
