The inheritance of the incomplete‐striped colour pattern morph in the wingless grasshopper. Phaulacridium vittatum , was studied by crossing incomplete‐striped individuals to both plain and striped individuals. The results are compatible with the incomplete‐striped morph being determined by an allele termed C I at the same locus that determines the plain and striped phenotypes. The C I allele appears to be recessive to the allele determining the striped phenotype (C s ) and dominant to the allele determining the plain phenotype (C p ).
