Abstract A nest of Ropalidia socialistica (Saussure) is described. It is of unique type, consisting of a large, naked, vertical comb in a tree crevice. Notes are presented on a large aggregation of R. revolutionalis (Saussure) in suburban Brisbane. The nest of this species consists of a naked, pendant comb of 2 rows of cells; most colonies add smaller “satellite” combs in the course of the season. A few nests of R. plebeiana Richards were intermingled with those of revolutionalis.
