Twice weekly, non‐destructive sampling of Chrysodeixis argentijera eggs on flue‐cured tobacco plants was employed to study seasonal oviposition patterns in the Mareeba and Dimbulah districts of north Queensland during four seasons, 1971–72 to 1974–75. These patterns were synchronised in both districts. Major peaks of oviposition did not occur until mid‐October or early November. Early planting is therefore suggested as a method whereby damage by C. argentijera larvae might be minimised.
