SUMMARY Two species of Achaea have previously been recognised from Australia, A. janata (L.) (the castor oil looper) and A. serva (F.). A. argilla Swinhoe, previously regarded as a form of A. janata , is here recognised as distinct. A. mercatoria (F.) is recorded from Australia for the first time, specimens having previously been confused with A. serva. Keys to the adults, male genitalia and female genitalia of the Australian members of Achaea are given as well as notes on distribution, larval foodplants and potential economic significance.
