On present evidence, the spotted alfalfa aphid is a recognisable segregate or biotype of Therioaphis trifolii (Monell) and should be known by this name or, more definitely as Therioaphis trifolii (Monell) f. maculata. The binomen Therioaphis maculata (Buckton) is not applicable.
