Redescriptions and illustrations are given of the females and/or males of 7 Australian species described by A. A. Girault: gilberti, newcombi, spinozai, triguttatus, garibaldia, purpureiventris and longifuniculus. M. aristotelea (Girault) cannot be properly identified from the remaining type material. The cosmopolitan species M. flavus (Howard) is recorded from 2 localities in Australia and its close relationship to 5 of the Girault species is discussed. M. australicus sp.n. is described from the soft scale insect hosts Gascardia destructor (Newstead) and Ceroplastes ceriferus (Anderson). A key is provided for the females of the Australian species of Microterys.
