Although one species of Biroella (Orthoptera, Eumastacidae, Biroellinae) from the Cape York Peninsula has a 2n♂= 17 karyotype which resembles that of many species of Morabinae, two other species of Biroella from Papua, with 2n♂= 15 and 2n♂= 11, have karyotypes that show no particular similarity to any morabine. The diversity of karyotypes in the genus Biroella seems to be extreme, even by comparison with the Morabinae.
