A new egg‐pod predator of the Australian plague‐locust, Chortoicetes terminifera (Walker), the larva of the melyrid beetle Laius villosus Lea is described. It was found in winter egg‐pods of Acrididae in the Central West of New South Wales in 1972 and 1973. A brief account is given of the ecology of the species which is a minor facultative predator of egg pods and is of little significance in controlling plague locust populations. Melyrid larvae have not previously been recorded from egg‐pods.
