This endemic Australian family is confined to moist areas of south‐eastern Australia, excluding Tasmania. The eight known species are referred to three genera. One new genus, Neochorista , is described to include the type species, Panorpa ruficeps Newman, and N. insolita sp.n. Other new species are Taeniachorista bifurcata, T. similis and T. nigrita. Species separation in Taeniochorista Esben‐Petersen is most readily accomplished on the facial structures of male specimens. Adults of all species emerge in late summer and autumn.
