Observations made on Phaulacridium vittatum during 1965–71 on the Northern Tablelands of N.S.W. showed that this grasshopper is a serious pest of both new and established pastures, where it attacks grasses, particularly their new growth, as well as the clovers and broad‐leafed plants upon which it was previously known to feed. The insect is a problem in seasons of low rainfall in the growing period and where overgrazing of pastures occurs.
