The external morphology of immature and mature stages of Eriococcus coriaceus Maskell is given with particular attention to the adult male, which has not been previously described. Data on the biology and behaviour of this scale‐insect include an assessment of its fecundity and a clear demonstration that it is oviparous, not viviparous as previously reported. Preliminary information on its predators and parasites is provided. Eriococcus coriaceus is pentavoltine with discrete generations. Two larval instars occur and mating appears to be necessary before ovarian development is completed.
