Histological analysis was performed on the lesions of the coronary artery and myocardium in accelerated serum sickness of the rabbit. Angiitis was seen to occur on the arterioles in the myocardium and was characterized by fibrinoid necrosis of the media with monocyte accumulation. Myocarditis was observed to be rather prominent in the right ventricle, where monocyte accumulation was associated with scattered degeneration or necrosis of myofibrils. In both lesions, the localization of antigen could hardly be detected in the inflammatory foci, suggesting the irrelevancy between the development of the tissue damages and the permanent deposition of immune complexes. Monocytes were seen to participate in the repair of the tissue injury.
