The authors have reported an autopsy case of congenital aplastic anemia associated with intensive hypoplasia of thymus gland and treated with a large amount of fresh blood transfusion and corticosteroids. There were complete fatty change of the bone marrows, intensive general anemia and hemorrhagic diathesis, intensive hypoplasia of the thymus gland, marked atrophy of the spleen, lymph nodes and other lymphatic tissues, and calcified foci with hemorrhagic softening of the brain. As to the pathogenesis, a close similarity of the present case with those reported by De Vaal, Hitzig and Gitlin was pointed out. The authors regard that there is an undeniable close relation between congenital aplastic anemia and thymic hypoplasia.
